To gain easy access to the property on the northern side of the creek, it was necessary to construct a road from the main entrance at the top of the ridge on the southern boundary, down the hill and across the creek. The photo below shows the grader forming the road up the hill.
At the end of road construction, the surface was much smoother and the batters were laid back to minimise erosion of the banks.
The final road is shown in this picture, winding down the hillside and then down across the creek. While access to the property could have been attempted on rough 4WD tracks, the steepness of the southern hill would have made this difficult. We also decided to go for a higher quality road, bearing in mind the need for a harvest access road at the end of the rotation. This dictated the maximum slopes and the minimum radius of curvature on the corner. The road will be left as earth for the moment, but may be gravelled in future years.
