Green & Gold Tree Farms envisages three major classes of product arising over the lifetime of the plantations:
- Timber Products: an obvious long-term product from the plantations is the timber obtained from harvest at the end of the rotation. Marketing plans will need to be put in place several years ahead of this event to ensure economically and environmentally attractive returns from the harvest.
- Carbon Sequestration: a less obvious medium- and long-term product from the plantations is a range of environmental services that can be provided as a result of the carbon sequestration that takes place during the growth of the plantation.
- Bioenergy Options: the sawlogs will only use about 30% of the volume of the final harvest - the rest will be harvest residue. In addition, along the way, there will be wood taken out of the plantation in the process of thinning and pruning. All of this "waste" can be used as a bioenergy fuel to produce renewable energy, and additional sequestration in the form of fuel substitution for highly-polluting fossil fuels such as brown coal.
