These pages chronicle the life of a new eucalypt plantation, from the beginning to its current stage of development. The chosen plantation is the Blue Range Close Plantation, a eucalypt plantation (with other native plantings interspersed) being planted on a 36 hectare property in Thornton, Victoria.
At each stage of development, comments and photos will be added to this site to describe the processes involved and to show how the plantation is developing. The purpose of this diary is threefold:
- to remind us where we have come from with this development
- to show others interested in such tree-farming plantation developments what might be involved
- to demonstrate how it is possible for individual action to change the landscape (for the good) by just planting a few trees
For those interested in this last point, might we recommend a great little book brought to our attention by our good forester mate John Woodley. The book is "The Man who Planted Trees - a story by Jean Giono" (Chelsea Green Publishing Company, White River Junction, Vermont, USA, www.chelseagreen.com). It is a great, yet humble, story of inspiration for potential tree farmers.
